The Visit of the President of the Republic of Italy to the Basilica of Saint Francis Assisi
On October 3, the President of the Republic of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, will visit the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi to attend the 20th anniversary of the earthquake that struck Umbria and the Marches on September 26, 1997. The Head of State will remember the victims of the earthquake in the Upper Basilica of St. Francis. Then there will be a private visit to the tomb of the Patron Saint of Italy.
There will be two press centers - one at the exterior and one at the interior of the Basilica Superiore of Saint Francis. Journalists will, as usual, follow the ceremony and work in the Press Room of the Sacred Convent of Assisi. The photographic and television service of the Press Room of the Sacred Convent will provide the headlines that will require it the multimedial material of the part of the visit that the media will not cover. After the ceremony, it will be possible to visit the caveau where the remains of the frescos by Giotto and Cimabue are conserved.
The request for accreditation must be sent to our office by email at accrediti@sanfrancesco.org by 2 pm on Saturday 30 September, indicating complete details (name, surname, place and date of birth), with the letterhead of your organization together with your office and telephone contacts.
Entrance to the Basilica of St. Francis will be allowed until 9.30. Those who will be accredited for Assisi will not be able to access the Lyric Theater of Santa Maria degli Angeli for the other event scheduled in there.
